I have taught this workshop in various ways over the past several years - as a workshop and as a retreat. It is one of my favorites, for though the participants learn how to weave small amulets (prayer pouches), the focus is really on seeing weaving as a metaphor for living a intentional life. A life that is conscious and spiritually sustainable.
The very structure of tapestry is a symbol of interconnections - a tangible metaphor for community and for all the natural inter-relationships of our ecosystem. The vertical warp threads reflect our values - the underlying structure that supports our lives. The horizontal wefts threads - often woven of many colors and textures - reflect our choices, actions, and responses we make every moment of every day that are woven into the fabric of our lives. If we become conscious of this interweaving of action and value so that our choices and actions visibly reflect and support our values, we create a fabric of life that 'sings', a life lived in peace and balance. If we remain unconscious of our values, then our actions will remain unconscious and we will weave for ourselves unconscious patterns based on reaction and impulse. It's your choice.
Are your values - your core beliefs about yourself, the Divine, and others - visible to others in your daily life? How do your daily choices, decisions, actions touch your values? Are your daily actions aligned with your values?
